ADVANCED LEVEL: Pouring Melt & Pour Soap in Layers (Part 3)

Pouring Soap Layers- Part 3 of 3

This is part 3 of a 3 part series on pouring layered soap. Here is the final segment on pouring soap in layers. There are so many possibilities when working with layered soaps. This three part soap making series provides a basic understanding of the "concept" of layering soap embeds to create dimensional soaps. Hopefully it will inspire you to experiment with new and creative ways to make signature soaps that are both fun and functional. Watch the FREE tutorial.

Here's what you need:

  • Mold Market large heart mold and basic oval mold

  • Clear soap base

  • Embeds created in Part 1 and Part 2 of this tutorial

  • Pearl Pink liquid gel soap color

  • Soap fragrance (optional).

  • Microwave/ glass measuring cup

  • Pipette for dispensing fragrance

  • Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. This helps to remove air bubbles on soap surface.

GETTING STARTED

Step One

Step 1

Assemble the embeds created in Part 1 and Part 2 of this tutorial. We will now begin the process of layering our embeds in the mold cavities to make the finished soaps. We will be using two different molds. Mold Market's basic oval and large heart.

Step 1

Step Two

Step 2

Cube clear soap and place in glass measuring cup. Melt in microwave in short bursts. DO NOT OVERHEAT! Once melted add desired fragrance. If using our fragrances, we suggest 2 to 2 1/2 teaspoons per pound of soap (16 ounces).

Step Three

Step 3

Pour a 1/4" layer of clear soap into mold cavity. Allow a thin skin to form on soap and then position a layer of cut-out embeds inside the mold cavity.

Step 3

Step Four

Position a pearl pink heart slice on top of the embeds.

Step 4

Liberally spray embeds with rubbing alcohol (this helps the layers to adhere to each other) and pour another thin layer of clear soap.

Step 4

Step 4

Spray the clear layers to remove any surface air bubbles created while pouring.

Step Five

Step 5

While the heart soaps set up, begin working on the oval shapes.Use the same cutters from Part 2, stamp out a daisy and circle from the pearl pink hearts and place inside the ovals.

Step 5

Step Six

Reheat the clear soap adding more cubes if needed. Color soap with pearl pink soap color adding extra color to deepen the shade.

Step 6

Step 6

Step 6

Pour the pearl pink soap as the final color. Top off all the molded cavities in both the oval and heart molds.

Step 6

Spray the soap with rubbing alcohol to remove any surface air bubbles created while pouring.

Step Seven

Step 7

Allow soaps to set up for 3-4 hours before releasing from molds. Using fingertips, gently pull the sides of mold away from soap. Flip mold over and gently push on face of mold to demold.

Step 7

Layered soaps add dimension to finished soaps.
